Das PPG Musik-Computersystem
mit HDU

«HDU ist ein 16-Bit-Harddisk-Recording-System auf Basis von zwei TMS 32010-DSPs, gesteuert von einem Motorola 68000-Prozessor. Damit ist die Aufzeichnung von zehn Spuren mit 12 Minuten Gesamtdauer auf einer 85-MB-Festplatte möglich (24 Minuten mit zusätzlicher Harddisk).

Vorhanden sind weiterhin diverse Schnitt-, Bounce- und Copy-Funktionen bei einer 96-dB-Dynamik und einem Frequenzgang von 0–20 kHz. Außderdem stehen zwei parallele Effekte bei der Wiedergabe zur Verfügung (Echo, Flanging, Phasing, Pitch-Shifting, Time-Stretching und Simulation verschiedener Verstärkerkennlinien – z. B. Röhrensimulation!).

Die Hard Disk Unit zeigt einmal mehr Wolfgang Palms visionäre Konzeptionen, was u. a. auch von Stevie Wonder (Characters) und Glenn Frey (The Heat Is On) verwendet wurde.

Das System konnte sich jedoch kaum in den Studios durchsetzen.»
